Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights numerous amenities accompanying the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
